QUICK FACTS

Granada used to be a kingdom and nowadays is a city and a province located in Andalusia. It is the 4th biggest city in this region. In the old city centre one can find many remainders dating back to the time of the kingdom, starting in the early 11th century.

Not only is the city famous for its sights but also for its proximity to the Sierra Nevada (located at the foot), the mountain range in the south of Spain and its closeness to the sea (only a one-hour-drive).

It is a perfect location for the summer and for the winter as one can do any kind of activities.

MUST-SEES

Don’t miss the Alhambra, a big palace and fort complex. It dates back to the era of the Moors, the Arabic people from North-Africa. Around this time Granada was ruled by them. This special complex consists in different palaces, towers, halls and patios. The many details, such as the patterns on the walls, are definitely worth a visit.

The Alhambra is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sights and it is the most popular sight of Granada. You can spend a whole day in this castle as there is so much to see.

Tip: book the tickets in advance, they are quickly sold out and every day there are large queues of tourists who did not know it.

TRIP-TIPS

As Granada is located at the foot of the mountain range Sierra Nevada, which is also a national park, it is the perfect place to go for a stroll, a bike tour or simply enjoy the flora and fauna.

Higher on the mountain you will find snow the majority of the year. Here you can ski and snowboard. The Sierra Nevada is also very popular amongst cycle racers. They often train here for their big matches. This is the perfect place to practice since the differences in heights are very large.

ACCOMMODATION

One of the highlights of a trip to Andalusia is the architecture. What is more beautiful than staying in one of the monumental buildings?

GASTRONOMY

Granada has a very different gastronomy than other parts of Spain due to its two melting cultures.
